Philathane PFU 280 Fluoropolymer Fluorinated Urethane Finish

Overview

Philathane PFU 280 Fluorinated Urethane Finish offers the combination of a fluorinated polymer and special ultraviolet inhibitors which result in an exterior finish coat of exceptional long term durability. Its long lasting performance offers a wide range of uses, such as the exterior coating for bridges, marine vessels, offshore structures, railcars, tanks, pulp and paper mills, chemical plants and refineries, and other concrete and steel structures. Philathane PFU 280 outperforms both acrylic and polyurethane when tested in weathering and salt fog cabinets. The color and gloss retention is outstanding with an expected performance that may exceed 30 years. The use of prime coats must be carefully considered due to the longevity of the finish. Philathane PFU 280 Fluoropolymer displays very good compatibility with various well known producers.

Purpose

Philathane PFU 280 Fluoropolymer can be used as a clear finish over other types of coatings to enhance the color, gloss and longevity of that coating system. Special orders are available for areas where VOC restrictions require lower levels and are available as low as 0 grams per liter. Type of material: Catalyzed Aliphatic Fluorinated Polymer.

Coating Specification

Long overcoat period if temperatures are around freezing point. Proper selection of the systems, coating application procedures and surface preparation are made depending on actual existing film. Best specific design factors and conditions are tested in a controlled laboratory. Consult with Phila Coatings (USA) Inc. Technical Department before and throughout testing process.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free of contamination. Apply only over properly prepared and primed surfaces. Care must be taken in selection of the primers and surface preparation. If PHILATHANE PFU 280 is applied over itself, the first coat must not be completely cured, otherwise adhesion will be very poor. High pressure freshwater wash should be conducted prior to the application. Steel products with mill scale: shot blasting or grit blasting should meet the requirements of Sa1 grade in Sweden de-rusting standard at least. Steel products without mill scale: to be ground by dynamic tools to meet the requirements of St3 grade in Sweden de-rusting standard. Steel products painted with plant primer: use slight grit blasting or dynamic tools to carry out secondary surface preparation to meet the requirements of St3 grade in Sweden de-rusting standard. For other surface treatments, please consult with Phila Coatings (USA) Inc. Mixing: Mix contents of base component separately prior to addition of catalyst. Mix total contents of catalyst container into base container using slow agitation to avoid incorporation of moisture. Do not use if catalyst container is bulged or contents are not clear. Mix only the number of kits that can be applied within a 4 hour period. Never mix components from one manufacturer with those of another.

Storage

Circa 18 months at 25°C, stored in a dry, shaded and ventilated condition. The container/paint, must be kept sealed and away from heat and ignition.

Pack Size

Basis 5 Gal. (18,9 Lit) drum, agent 1 Gal (3,785 Lit) drum. If other packing specifications are needed, please consult with Phila Coatings (USA) Inc.
